Passages, new landscape paintings by Robert Malone
Southside Gallery will exhibit new paintings by landscape painter, Robert Malone from December 5th, 2017 – January 6th, 2018. An artist’s reception will be held Saturday, December 9th, 5 – 8 PM.
Robert Malone will feature over thirty of his celebrated landscape paintings in his December exhibition at Southside Gallery. The title of the exhibition, Passages, describes the nature of most of the paintings, which are wetland landscapes. These landscapes depict meandering rivers, streams and other bodies of water that serve as passages of travel, but the title has other connotations.
Malone’s paintings are also about spiritual passages. There is an oneness with the world Malone conveys in his paintings, giving them a celestial quality. Malone’s landscapes are meditative milieus, not simply depictions. A photograph can’t capture the essence of the painter’s expression. Through Malone’s eyes we see the search for God, for heaven on earth.
Robert Malone received his MFA from the University of Mississippi and his BFA from the Memphis College of Art. Since 1997, he has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Mississippi. His work is exhibited and collected nationally.
